Current Prayer Concerns: 1. His throat REALLY hurts from being incubated. His voice is so scratchy. 2. He isn't sleeping.

Revisiting the MOPS Introduction
I lugged a box to the hospital for working on my Christmas cards while we (David, Lisa and I) were waiting for my dad's heart catheter procedure to be completed. Part way through that roller coaster day, I realized that deep in the stack of papers on my clipboard were notes from my introduction of Daddy when he spoke to my MOPS group last Fall.
I think I may have started by apologizing for my vanity, because I was speaking on and introducing someone I am very proud of... my Daddy!
1. My dad, Carl Hoppes, was born on June 2, 1926, at Seaside Hospital, Long Beach.
2. My dad is a USC graduate. He worked for 36 years for Edison as an electrical engineer. He was part of the team of engineers that designed the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant. He retired in 1987.
3. My dad was married to my mom for 37 years. He is a father of 3, grandpa of 8. He is the primary care-giver for my maternal grandmother, 96. She lives independently on her own because my dad does all her grocery shopping, Dr. appointments, and heavy housework. (She has since moved with my Dad's help and is now 97.)
4. My dad's current roommate is Daisy Joy, a very dignified labrador who loves to ride in the back seat so we tease him about "Driving Miss Daisy."
5. My dad has a green thumb. By count, he has designed and landscaped 8 yards, 1 church and 1 school. He has the most incredible collection of orchids!
6. My dad is a prolific reader. He likes historical fiction and nonfiction. He has read his Bible cover to cover every year since his retirement.
7. My dad is an author. He has a work in progress called "Carl's Story" written to his children and grandchildren as a testimony of God's blessing in his life.
8. My dad is a traveler. He has been to the Caribbean, Mexico, Holy Land, Australia, New Zealand, and many parts of Europe. He traveled with the Stephen Ambrose tours for the 60th Anniversary of D-Day in France and 60th Anniversary of Iwo Jima. In addition, he has toured Washington D.C. 7 times (8 since then).
9. My dad is the most patriotic person I know.
10. My dad is a WWII Veteran. He didn't attended his high school graduation because his tour of duty started before then. He was a Navy man.
But the most important things about my dad are:
11. My dad is a PROMISE KEEPER. I do not have a single memory in my whole life of my dad saying he would be somewhere or do something and then not follow through on it... NOT ONE TIME I CAN THINK OF!
12. My dad is a PRAYER WARRIOR. Every morning of my life, when I got up my dad would be at the kitchen table praying and reading his Bible.
I love you Daddy!
I decided to post this here not because any of it is likely to be new to anyone... when all lined up, it certainly indicates my dad is one amazing and special person.
